Preparing for Matriculation

Congratulations on your acceptance to JABSOM!  We look forward to welcoming you to our ʻohana!  As matriculation nears, please see some of the requirements below for you to review and prepare in advance.  A detailed Matriculation page with additional requirements will be available at a later date.  If you have any questions regarding the information below, please contact Jayme Young, MS1 & MS2 Coordinator.

If you intend to enroll at JABSOM, you must pay a $100 payment.  The partial advance tuition payment is non-refundable and non-transferable.  The amount will be credited towards your Fall Semester tuition payment.

Diagnostic instruments are required for the Clinical Skills Laboratories & Preceptorships.  A stethoscope will be gifted to all first year students and it may not be necessary to purchase one.  The total cost for all equipment is approximately $1,300, so please budget accordingly.

Immunization requirements are a synopsis of the requirements of all out teach teaching hospitals and recommended by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).  Please visit the UPH - JABSOM Immunizations website for the Immunization Checklist for a list of your immunization requirements.

All students at JABSOM are required to have Disability and Malpractice Insurance coverage.  You can purchase both insurance through JABSOM or if you have your own disability or malpractice insurance coverage, please provide documentation to verify coverage.  Below are the costs of the insurances:

  • Disability Insurance:  Coverage provided by the AMA/Standard Insurance Company for $37

  • Malpractice Insurance:  Students will be covered under the University of Hawaiʻi, JABSOM policy with The Doctors Company (TDC) for $25

Please note both insurances are non-refundable and premium costs are subject to change.

All JABSOM students are required to have medicla health insurance coverage.  Students can explore various health care providers or programs that fit your needs and budget.  Health isnurance plans range from little to no cost - $400 per month.

All matriculating first year students are required to be certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers by the American Heart Association (AHA).  CPR certification issed prior to May 2024 will not be accepted.

A personal use of an iPad is required for each student and will be the main device for exam taking purposes.  Although the iPad Mini is supported by the Exam App, we strongly encourage student's iPad to be at least 9.7" (diagonal) in size for taking exams.  Please visit the Examplify: Minimum System Requirements - ExamSoft website for the most current iPad requirements needed for the Exam App.
