Cost of Attendance

The Cost of Attendance (COA), also referred to as the student budget, is a standardized set of budgets used as a basis for determining maximum aid eligibility for medical students at JABSOM. For a print friendly version of the student budget, please visit the Resources & Forms page.

Student Budget Details

Tuition & Fees
The University of Hawaiʻi Board of Regents have approved the following tuition for the academic year 2022-2023 through 2023-2024. Student Fees may vary each year.

  • Resident Tuition:  $36,672 (tuition) + $772 (fees) = $37,444
  • Non-Resident Tuition:  $71,328 (tuition) + $772 (fees) = $72,100
Books & Supplies
The figures are based on an average amount for books and miscellaneous supplies (copying, paper, pencils, pens, etc.). Financial aid students may request an allowance for the purchase of a computer, but only one purchase is allowed during medical school.
Meals & Housing
These figures are provided by the Financial Aid Services Office at the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa according to Federal guidelines.
Personal Expenses
These figures are provided by the Financial Aid Services Office at the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa according to Federal guidelines and includes the cost of disability and malpractice insurance.
Transportation
This figure allows for the cost of gas, hospital parking, and car insurance/safety check/license. The cost of car maintenance is not included, which is prohibited by Federal guidelines.
Loan Fees
These fees are assessed to ALL federal loans and will be proportionately deducted from each loan prior to disbursement. For more information, please visit the Financial Aid Services site.
